Chanuk Algama is a visual media producer and the founder of "Algamation Pictures."
He was born in Kelaniya, Sri Lanka. He attended S. Thomas' Preparatory School in Colombo, Sri Lanka till his 10th grade and continued his 11th and 12th grade at the Asian International School in Colombo. He is a Goshen College Alumni with a bachelors degree in Communications and is currently studying for his Masters in Business Administration at Concordia University.
Chanuk's passion for Video and Photography began back in his home country. At age 16 he began to self-train himself by looking up various tutorials, articles, etc on the Internet and other forms of media.
Tennis played a major support to Chanuk's career path. Chanuk has been a competitive tennis player since age 8. In 2005 he travelled to the United States together with a junior team led by former Sri Lankan Davis Cup coach, Arul Amalnathan and organized by Purdue University Alum, Ganesh De Silva. In 2006 Chanuk shot and edited his own tennis reel, which was sent to colleges and universities in the United States. In Fall 2007, Chanuk entered Goshen College on a tennis scholarship and declared himself as a Communication Major. Ever since then his knowledge of the field has been improving due to the professional influences and work experiences he's been receiving.
In 2008, Chanuk joined GCTV (Goshen College Television) where he managed to do a lot of work with writing, reporting, recording, editing, technical assisting and more. In 2009, Chanuk also started to work with Goshen College ITS Media Services, which complimented his work with GCTV. Here he began to do more video production and was also made the department's video editor.
During Spring 2010, Chanuk attended the Los Angeles Film Studies center in Los Angeles, California for a semester-long program. Here he managed to learn more and gain experience in professional filmmaking with a number of other film students from around the United States.
At the end of the year 2009-2010 the Indiana Association of School Broadcasters awarded Goshen College as "Television School of the Year". At the same time Chanuk took over the Operations Manager position at GCTV. With work at GCTV and ITS Media still going on, Chanuk was offered another position at the beginning of 2010-2011. He was appointed as one of the Goshen College Communication Department Faculty Teaching Assistants where he helped out Professor Seth Conley.
During Spring 2011, Chanuk had the privilege of attending the National Association of Broadcasters Convention in Las Vegas, NV. He joined 90,000+ media and entertainment professionals from over 150 countries.
After graduating with a bachelors degree in Communications in May 2011, Chanuk singed up to go through the post-graduate practical training period for international student graduates. Here he served as an Interim Video Systems Coordinator at Goshen College where he held responsibilities for the television station's transition to a full high-definition production workflow and the development of the college's new video production company, FiveCore Media. Around the same time, Chanuk also began serving as an Internal Manager Trainee with Fortune Five Hundred listed electronics firm, RadioShack Corporation.
In May 2012, Chanuk was called onboard by Film Independent to work with the Los Angeles Film Festival. There he worked with all things technical and post-production, hosting world premiers for movies such as Steven Soderbergh's "Magic Mike" (Warner Bros. Pictures), Woody Allen's "To Rome With Love" (Sony Pictures Classics), Lorene Scafaria's "Seeking a Friend for the End of the World" (Focus Features), Mark Andrews & Brenda Chapman's "Brave" (Disney Pixar) and many more.
